Last Day for the Rental Car

We returned to Castara so Diana could snorkel. Unfortunately, the sand was being turned up too much. However, Stan made a new friend while she gave it a try. The mangy dog would not let Stan stop petting and scratching it (probably the first time it had ever encountered human affection).

We drove on to Englishman's Bay to see how the snorkeling was there. Too much sand being churned up, but Diana had a swing on the beach.  Max and Cole would have loved the swing! Stan swam, but the 10 foot surf almost took his swim trunks off (not pictured)!

As we traveled the winding roads, we had to slow down for the cows.

We had lunch at Jemma's Seaview Kitchen Treehouse in Speyside. There is a tree in the center of the open air restaurant, and there are different levels of seating overlooking the Atlantic. Stan had kingfish; Diana had shrimp. The meals came with a lettuce salad with a ginger dressing. All the side dishes came family style. The restaurant is known for the breadfruit pie, which is a side dish casserole with breadfruit and lots of cheese. However, it was not being served today. Instead we had cassava pie. It was cassava baked with lots of cheese and spices. We also had some vegetables in a ginger sauce,  pilaf, and Tanya fritters. (We discovered later that the cassava root is highly toxic with cyanide and must be skillfully prepared.)
