Fort George, Lunch, and the Coconut Boys

David and Jill, neighbors of ours at Bijou des Caraibes, took us for a mini tour of the area today. They are from England and come here for 6 months or more each year. David bought a truck 2 years ago so that he has transportation while on the island. They took us first to Fort George. It was built in the 1780s by the British and is Tobago's best preserved historical site. We walked the beautiful grounds and enjoyed the view of the Atlantic.

We stopped at A B's Mainroad Cuisine for lunch. It was a woman's kitchen. She cooks local food in her kitchen. The menu was written on a chalkboard.

Diana ordered Macaroni Pie and callaloo. Macaroni Pie is basically macaroni and layers of cheese baked. Callaloo is a green leafy vegetable, somewhat like spinach, bit a sweeter taste. It was very good.

Stan had baked chicken, vegetable rice, and dumplings. The dumplings were very tough and filling. Some were brought home for another meal.

David took us to a roadside stand for coconut water and coconut jelly. The workers at the stand were bottling coconut water and selling that as well.

Cutting the coconut so we can drink the water. It was very plain tasting.
