Drive Along the Caribbean Side of Tobago

Today we went part way up the Caribbean side of Tobago. Our first stop was for a picture of Grange Bay.

Next stop was Fort Bennet. The view was nice!

Then we went in search of Arnos Vale Reef. There were no signs to help us, but we were hoping the tips from Trip Advisor were correct. We came to the Arnos Vale Hotel. It was deserted, and the gate was locked. We asked some road workers about getting to the reef, and they told us to return to the town of Plymouth and ask for directions. We did, and when we followed those directions, we ended up on a cliff overlooking Arnos Vale Bay. There was no beach, but there was a great view of the bay.

We went back to the road and were about to give up when we saw some people who were wearing look-alike shirts. They looked like they would know! We asked for directions and one hopped in the back seat and said he would show us. Well, he took us back to the Arnos Vale Hotel and pointed out a forest trail that he said we should follow. Then a car horn beeped. We moved so the car could continue. It stopped at the side of the road, so we pulled up and asked if he knew where Arnos Vale Beach was. He told us to follow him. We turned around again and headed through Plymouth and finally came to the beach. It was right in front of the Arnos Vale Hotel and we could see the forest trail off in the brush. Soon we saw some natives coming down that trail. Here is a picture of the beach.

While at the beach, we asked a couple from Switzerland how the snorkeling was. They were not that impressed due to the rough waves. We decided we would come back on a different day. We offered them a ride, and they were thrilled, as they had walked a very long way to get to the beach. After we dropped them off, we returned to Turtle Beach. It was very nice. We had our picnic lunch, but then it started to rain. We figured we would try another day for that as well.
